I voted for you.
To put it bluntly, I imagined that you would be the second coming of Harold Washington. Let’s face it: there hasn’t been a black mayor since Harold and the opportunity to explore what that would be like again was exciting. Now one thing is clear; you don’t know what you are doing.
I recognize you and the head of the Chicago Police Union John Catanzara have beef over this vaccine mandate. I recognize that taking the vaccine is critical to fight against COVID-19. Our city however is running the risk of being a slaughterhouse if a compromise isn’t put on the table soon. Chicago manages to compromise on so many other things, why not this?
If you are concerned about how the governor will take it, schedule a conference room at one of the Hyatt’s the Ptrizker family owns and talk it out. If you are concerned with how Joe Biden will react to it, have Barack Obama talk to Biden for you regarding bending the rules just a bit.
You have security, you have the means to live elsewhere, but the rest of us do not. Please Lori, take a cue from the other politicians you know who have been in the game a long time; compromise on this and keep the cops on the streets so they can keep our city from looking moderately violent.
