Universal Pictures Wants You Out Of The Water Again! Jaws To Be Remade In 3D!

After the embarrassing and final sequel in the Jaws franchise, Jaws: The Revenge, I didn’t think anyone will be willing to take it on. Apparently Universal Pictures, which holds the rights to the franchise, believes people actually wanna be scared of going into the water again – this time in 3D!

From Cinema Blend:

A source of ours over at Universal Pictures says the studio is strongly considering a remake of the summer blockbuster in hopes of dazzling younger audiences with new special effects. Their claim is that people now expect more, visually, from their movie going experience. So, Hollywood studios are inclined to take some of their tried and true franchise names like Jaws and bring them into the 3D world.

Our insider says Tracy Morgan was at one point being considered for the part of Matt Hooper, previously played by Richard Dreyfuss. While it’s uncertain whether that’s still the plan, it does indicate that they seem to be taking a more comedic direction with the part.

I’d go along with the 3D transformation because the bigger battle isn’t with the quality of the 3D, but the quality of the remake itself. You cannot remake the quality of the original. If you must, then make it as different as you wish without taking anyway the suspense of the original.

Jaws, for all it’s production problems, worked mainly because the creature of picture didn’t appear every 15 minutes. Spielberg intended for the shark to be more prevalent in the film, but the constant breakdown of the shark special effect meant it couldn’t be used as much. I can’t say Spielberg would still have a career if he didn’t take the less is more route.

There’s nothing really to say about Tracy Morgan being cast as Hooper. They could have done better, but who exactly could beat Richard Dreyfuss in the original role? This could be a rumor for all I know.

I hope to god that’s so.

Let’s hope the Jaws remake is that too.
